Leg Cramps
Pregnancy Resources
Cramping in the legs tends to occur in mid-pregnancy due to poor circulation. These often occur at night. To relieve cramping, flex your toes vigorously towards your knees and stretch your legs. Other helpful tips to manage leg cramping include; wearing maternity support hose that aren’t too tight, which would contribute to more poor circulation, getting enough rest and mild exercise throughout the day, gentle massage, stretching, and making sure you are getting enough calcium and potassium in your diet.
If there is localized tenderness, or if any redness develops behind the knee or in the calf, please contact our office immediately, as this can be a sign of a blood clot.
