About Our Classes:
Prenatal: Childbirth is different for every woman, and many expectant mothers do not even know how varied their options are, and how different their experience can be. We encourage our patients to be as informed and confidant as possible going into labor, and prenatal classes are an excellent resource. In our prenatal classes you will become familiar with breathing techniques, pain control options, how to recognize when you are experiencing real labor vs braxton hicks contractions, policies and procedures at your specific hospital, what to expect directly after delivery and so much more.
If your partner also attends classes, he or she will learn how to best support you, and the special role he/she can play in your birth process. Many patients find taking these classes with your partner can be a special bonding experience. Childbirth is a momentous occasion and we want to help make your delivery everything you envision. This process begins with being informed, and our prenatal classes can provide that for you!
Breastfeeding: Many mothers are surprised when they discover that breastfeeding does not always come naturally. Many times it take mom and baby a little while to get the hang of it. This can be stressful if you don’t know what to expect. In class you can expect to learn the various breastfeeding “holds” or postures, and find what feels comfortable to you. You will also learn what is an appropriate “latch,” and different techniques you can try if you are struggling. Many mothers will benefit from hands-on help from a lactation specialist after baby comes, and in class you will become familiar with all of the resources available to you.
You will also learn about common breastfeeding challenges such as mastitis, allergies or food intolerance in your baby, how to use a breast pump, and more!
Occasionally mothers who want to breastfeed will give up all together because they are unaware of the challenges, which are perfectly normal! Breastfeeding is so beneficial to both baby and mom, and we want to make sure this doesn’t happen unnecessarily. In our breastfeeding class you will be confident about what to expect, what to try, and where to go for help when you need it.
